CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office was honored to welcome Angelia Selvage and John Cox earlier this week to share the most recent status for donated toys for the Christmas season.
According to Sheriff Matt Gentry, for several years, they have worked to gather toys for children locally in need and presented them to the Sheriff’s Office.
“This year marked their biggest donation yet,” Gentry said. “The Sheriff’s Office is proud to partner with wonderful citizens like Angelia and John, and will make sure their generous donation gets to those in need.”
According to the CCSO, Angelia Selvage runs the entertainment venture Dead End Haunted Trail during the Halloween season, and the proceeds go to help pay for the toys. They have given these donations to the Sheriff’s Office for the past five to six years. This year they brought a trailer full of toys.
“We love giving back to our community. We first started in 2014 and since then have grown,” Selvage said. “We first opened our haunted trail in 2014, then again in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020 and this year was our biggest year. We do it for the kids during the month of October so they can have fun every Friday and Saturday nights. We make everything kid-friendly at the trail. I was raised to where if my own children can’t be somewhere then I don’t go, and that’s why we do what we do.”
She and her husband John Cox said they don’t have a gift request list persay; anything that is donated is appreciated.
“If anyone would like to get involved, all we ask is that the toys be in decent condition or new,” Selvage said. “The toys don’t have to be expensive; we appreciate the donations and can be purchased anywhere. If all things go as well as our haunted trail event that we did in October, we will attempt the ‘Dead End Haunted Trail Christmas Edition’ this year. Our open date is November 27 and we will be opened December 3, 4, 10, 12 and 17-18.
The admission will be new toys that will be given to the sheriff’s office. The only thing we ask is if there are any stuffed animals, please keep all tags attached. We want to be able to turn all donations in before Christmas. If you would like more information, please feel free to call me at 256-347-9361.”
“I have often said, we live in the greatest county in the state of Alabama,” Gentry said. “It is our citizens that continue to make me proud to be a part of Cullman County. The level of support, selflessness and giving in this county is unmatched.”
